How to Increase Maximum File Upload Size in WordPress (3 Ways)

So, How to increase your wordpress website’s maximum upload size?  There are three main to do complete this. Let’s start.

Before we start, some hosting company works a little differently. It’s possible that in some cases it can’t work with your hosting provider. I fully train one solution at a time until you find the right way to fix this.

1. Add Some Code to Your WordPress Site’s .htaccess File

Our first method is related to your .htaccess file. If you’re aren’t a coder fun then don’t worry to see this. You won’t need to write your code yourself. Actually, if you don’t have any experience with code then simple changes can crash your full site. We have provided all code, you’ve just copied the code and pasted it on your .httaccess file.

All you’ve to do is just copy the code and paste it in the following place. I hope you’ll feel more comfortable with this method. If you ain’t good at program then this can be helpful for you.

For applying the first method just go to the Public_html file and find the file called .htaccess. When you just find the file then just backup the file and then go to the edit option.

Open root folder in FileZilla

Then, just open the .htaccess file using a text or any editor. Copy and paste the code on the end:

php_value upload_max_filesize 128M
php_value post_max_size 128M
php_value max_execution_time 300
php_value max_input_time 300

You can use different values, too.

Your .htaccess file should now look something like this:

.htaccess file with modified PHP values

After a single change on your server, don’t forget to save the update. After successfully completing the process, go to the wordpress dashboard and check the upload maximum file the upload size. If you can’t see any changes then just delete the code and go to the next following step.

2. Create or Edit Your WordPress Site’s php.ini File

In this second method, you are also required to change some code on your cPanel. In this method, you have to create a new file for this process, so this process can be more difficult than before.

The first step is to use FileZilla to open your site’s root folder:

Next, you’ll need to create a file called php.ini, you can override your server PHP configuration settings. This setting is connected with your maximum upload size.

If you’re a bit experience with FTP then it’s a good method which you can try. This process also is a useful introductory challenge if you check your code development skill.

Open the root folder, with the php.ini file highlighted

Go with this method, firstly you need to see if there’s an already file and that filename is php.ini. There’s an 80% possibility to be here. Otherhand you simply create a file and rename it as “php.ini” and save it on your root folder.

Then, copy and paste the following code into the file blank position:

memory_limit = 64M

upload_max_filesize = 64M

post_max_size = 64M

max_execution_time = 300

Once you’ve completed the session then you must save the update. After this method goes just go to your dashboard and check the update. I hope it’s maybe increased to 64MB.

If you’re lucky then delete the new php.ini file. And go with to new method. How to Create a Full Width Page in WordPress

3. Contact Your Web Host Directly

Since your Maximum upload is controlled by your hosting provider then you can’t increase this. You’ve to need talk with your hosting provider or wait for their response.
